Impact investing [verb]

"Investments made into companies, organizations, and funds with the intention to generate a measurable, beneficial social or environmental impact alongside a financial return."

I have worked in the impact investment field since 2004 - as a start-up investor, business coach, corporate advisor, and fund executive - with particular experience in Africa and with marine/coastal ventures.

I love entrepreneurs! True entrepreneurs. These special founders who have the critical attributes, that, with the right support/structure around them, get them, and their investors to “there”. To that place where their ventures are creating value. Year ... after year. Value as in healthy ROI for investors, sustainable jobs, disrupting inefficient industries/markets, and importantly ... solving social/environmental challenges.

I have done it myself and I have learned to spot the ones who have a good chance of making it. And I have learned how to support these founder/s, their teams and their investors so these ventures do succeed. This is my professional vocation.

I have considerable experience working in Africa (14 countries, including Mauritius and Seychelles) and across a range of sectors from start-ups, high growth SMEs, through to listed companies. I have a particular interest in clean tech, green tech, food systems, circular economy and the ocean sector.

I have enjoyed a good measure of success doing this independently over the last two decades. I maintain, through Venture4th - my Mauritius-domiciled investment trust - active interests in a small portfolio of impact companies with global application. My relationship with all the founders involved is intimate and long-term focused.
