Impact investing [verb]

"Investments made into companies, organizations, and funds with the intention to generate a measurable, beneficial social or environmental impact alongside a financial return."

I have worked in the impact investment field since 2004 - as a start-up investor, business coach, corporate advisor, and fund executive - with particular experience in Africa and with marine/coastal ventures.

Venture4th Ocean Impact Fund

I am the founder and GP of this Mauritius-based private deal-leading VC fund that invests in and supports ocean impact entrepreneurs.

Working closely with ocean start-up hubs, such as Ocean Hub Africa in Cape Town (where I serve as Lead Program Advisor) and the Ocean Impact Organisation in Sydney as well as our extensive global network, Venture4th sources viable early and growth stage ocean impact businesses led by calibre founder/s, facilitates structured co-investment into these ventures alongside larger VC funds, family offices and angel investors, and then provides technical and leadership support to the investees through to exit.

Featured start-ups:

Planblue is a German start-up that is pioneering the use of hyperspectral imaging combined with AI-based data analysis to reveal the hidden value of our oceans (we know more about Mars than we do about our own seafloor). After successful first-round fundraising in 2019 and 2020, the company is actively seeking further investment to accelerate global aspirations. Contact me for more information.

Sharksafe Barrier is the start-up behind the eco-friendly technology that combines magnetic and visual stimuli to deter shark species considered dangerous to humans. Spun out of Stellenbosch University in South Africa, the company has patented technology that works to keep people safe from sharks while simultaneously protecting the sharks. The company is seeking investment, in exchange for equity, to roll out their global business plan. Investors interested in getting on board this exciting niche start-up, can email me.
