Impact investing [verb]

"Investments made into companies, organizations, and funds with the intention to generate a measurable, beneficial social or environmental impact alongside a financial return."

I have worked in the impact investment field since 2004 - as a start-up investor, business coach, corporate advisor, and fund executive - with particular experience in Africa and with marine/coastal ventures.

Venture4th Ocean Impact Fund

I am the founder of this Mauritius-based private VC fund that invests in and supports ocean impact businesses.

Working closely with ocean start-up hubs, such as Ocean Hub Africa (which I am a Non-Executive Director of, and Mentor with), and Ocean Impact Organisation in Australia, Venture4th makes investments into, and provides strategic and mentoring support for, compelling ocean impact businesses.

Featured start-ups:

Planblue is a German start-up that is pioneering the use of hyperspectral imaging combined with AI-based data analysis to reveal the hidden value of our oceans (we know more about Mars than we do about our own seafloor). After successful first-round fundraising in 2019 and 2020, the company is actively seeking further investment to accelerate global aspirations. Contact me for more information.

Sharksafe Barrier is an eco-friendly technology that combines magnetic and visual stimuli to deter shark species considered dangerous to humans. Spun out of Stellenbosch University in South Africa, the company has patented technology that works to keep people safe from sharks while simultaneously protecting the sharks. Investors interested in getting on board this exciting niche start-up, which is being mentored as part of the first Ocean Hub Africa's first cohort, can email me.

Sustainable Capital

I have been a Non-Executive Director and shareholder of Sustainable Capital since its inception in 2008.

Domiciled in Mauritius, this independent and owner-managed investment manager delivers long-term superior returns by applying responsible investment practices to listed equities on the African continent.

Email me if you would like to find out more about investing in our Africa Alpha Fund (which currently has USD 365 Million in assets under management).
